Why we’re strict about this
Parents have learned not to trust baby gadget shops, and reviews are a big part of why. Reviews copied from somewhere else. Five stars from people who never owned the thing. Complaints that quietly vanish overnight. You’ve seen it. So have we.
So here’s the deal. A review on Calmo is from a real buyer, written after real nights, and published whatever it says. If a product doesn’t work, you should hear it from the parent it didn’t work for, not find out for yourself at 3am.
Since April 2025, UK law has banned fake reviews and hiding incentivised ones (it’s in the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024). Good. We’d have done all this anyway.
Our rules
Seven of them. We follow every one, every time.
- Verified buyers only. You can only review a product you bought from us, and we check every review against a real order. Nothing is imported from other websites, marketplaces or manufacturers.
- At least 14 nights after delivery. A first impression isn’t a verdict. Around 14 nights after your order arrives, we’ll email to ask how it’s going.
- Every star rating gets published. One star to five. We don’t hold back the low ones, and we don’t sit on them until they’ve been pushed down the page.
- We never edit the words. Not a typo, not a sentence we wish you hadn’t written. If a review breaks a rule, it comes down whole and we tell you why. It’s never trimmed into something nicer.
- We never pay or gift for reviews. No discount for five stars, no freebie for changing a three to a four, no prize draw for leaving one.
- The one exception is always labelled. Our Tester Panel get products free to test, and their reviews always carry a Tester label, so you can weigh them however you like.
- We never ask anyone to change a review. If something went wrong, we’ll try to put it right. A refund, replacement or anything else will never depend on what your review says.
What we remove, and why
Very little. A review only comes down if it breaks one of these three rules:
| We take it down if it contains… | Because |
|---|---|
| Personal data: phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, order numbers, or anyone else’s full name | Reviews are public. Your details shouldn’t be, and nor should anyone else’s. |
| Abuse: threats, hate, harassment, or attacks on a person | Nobody should have to read that, including the people who work here. |
| Something off-topic: content that isn’t about the product or your order with us at all, such as spam, adverts or links | A review is there to help the next parent decide. Off-topic content doesn’t. |
Very occasionally, the law may require us to take something down. If that ever happens, we’ll still tell the reviewer why.
When we remove a review, we email the person who wrote it to say which rule it broke. They’re welcome to post it again without the part that broke the rule. We won’t edit it for them, because then the words wouldn’t be theirs.
What we never remove a review for
- Being negative, however blunt.
- Being about us rather than the product: slow delivery, a muddled reply, a return that took too long. That’s about your order, and it’s fair.
- Saying something else worked better for you.
Why many products say “No reviews yet”
Because we’re new, and every review has to come from a verified buyer after at least 14 nights. That takes time.
We could fill the gaps with reviews from the manufacturer, a marketplace listing, or a friend with a keyboard. Plenty of shops do. We’d rather show you an honest blank than a fake five.
In the meantime, the 60-night trial means you don’t have to take anyone’s word for it, ours included.
Tester reviews
Our Tester Panel is a group of parents who get products free to test for 60 nights, in return for an honest review. It’s the only time a review is linked to anything free, so it’s always labelled Tester.
Testers aren’t paid and aren’t told what to write. Their one-star reviews get published like everyone else’s.
Report a review
Think a review breaks one of the rules above? Tell us.
- Email hello@calmobaby.com with “Report a review” in the subject line.
- Tell us which product, the date of the review, and which rule you think it breaks.
- We’ll look at it within one working day and tell you what we decided, and why.
If the review follows the rules, it stays up, even if it’s about us and it stings. If it’s your own review and you’d like it taken down, just ask. We’ll remove it, and you’re welcome to write a new one.
The short version
Real buyers. Real nights. Every star rating. Not one word changed.
